Bachmann Branchline LMS Patriot locomotive in original condition released

Bachmann Europe PLC has released the first models of its OO scale LMS Patriot locomotive in original condition to its dealers.

Fifty two locomotives were built between November 1930 and May 1934 to the designs of Sir Henry Fowler. The first two locomotives were rebuilds of former LNWR Claughton locomotives, whilst the rest were new (although 40 of them were designated accountancy rebuilds). 18 of the class were subsequently rebuilt by Ivatt between October 1946 and January 1949, the rest remaining in original condition until withdrawal. The first locomotive was withdrawn in February 1961 and the last in December 1965. None were preserved although there are plans to produce a new locomotive using some components from a former derelict LMS locomotive by the LMS Patriot Project based on the Llangollen Railway.

The Class carried names from former Claughton class locomotives, Patriots, The British Millitary Services or LMS holiday destinations such as Llandudno. Seven of the Class did not carry names in traffic although they had been allocated.

The Patriots were utilised on the West Coast, Midland and later the Great Central main lines (under London Midland Region ownership) on express passenger, parcels or fitted freight trains.

The new locomotives feature 8 pin DCC decoder socket, etched smoke deflectors, and Fowler tenders. Two versions are currently available No. 45503 The Royal Leicestershire Regiment (31-210) in BR green with early emblem and No. 45543 Home Guard in BR green with late crest (31-211). The third version No. 5541 Duke of Sutherland in LMS Crimson livery (31-212) will be available shortly. These OO models have a recommended retail price of 102.85.
